Loans Funding

Our loans programme supports activities with the following aims:

  • To provide upfront development costs to for community owned renewable energy projects, including: financial modelling, document review, planning and connection consents, technical due diligence and the promotion of share offers.
  • To recruit asset owners willing to host community owned renewable generators. Bristol City Council has already consented to a number of such pilot installations and is working closely with other public sector and private sector partners.
  • To recycle loan money from successful community groups to allow a sustainable fund for long-term project support.

Who can apply?

The following type of groups can apply for loan funding as long as they have a registered office within England and Wales:

  • Co-operative Societies
  • Community Benefit Societies
  • Community interest companies
  • Registered charities

How do I apply?

Our loan offer is currently being developed and we’ll be announcing it here soon. Alternatively you can sign up to our mailing list to be kept in the loop. Once launched, you’ll be able to apply directly through this website. We’ll have information and guidance to make sure you’re fully clued-up on the application process.

Who decides which applications get funded?

Our loan fund works a little bit differently from our grants programme. For our loan fund we’ve established a decision panel made up of officers from Bristol City Council and our partners at the Centre for Sustainable Energy.
